Important Notes
  • Before installing Microsoft Windows Me operating system, or the Sony software updates for Windows Me operating system, please be sure to read the Sony''s Installing the Microsoft Windows Me Operating System. Most of the Sony software updates for the Windows Me operating system require you to install the Windows Me operating system as an upgrade to the Sony factory-shipped version of Windows 98 or 98 SE operating system.
  • If the Windows 98 or 98 SE operating system is removed from the computer before installing Windows Me operating system, or if Windows Me operating system is installed in a different directory than the default selection (C:\Windows), most of the Sony updates for Windows Me operating system will not install correctly.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the SNC_ME.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SNC_ME.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. At the "Sony Notebook Control Driver Utility for Microsoft Windows Millennium - Welcome" box, click "Continue".NOTE: Several setup boxes will briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
  5. At the "Setup Complete" screen, select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" (if it isn''t already selected) and click "Finish".NOTE: If a "Confirm File Deletion" box appears, you have already installed this update. Click "OK" to remove the existing installation files and then repeat this procedure, starting with step 5, to reinstall the update.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony Notebook Control Driver is complete.

Installation Verification (Optional)

Please follow the steps below to verify that the Sony Notebook Control Driver was successfully installed.

  1. At the Windows Desktop, right-click the "My Computer" icon.
  2. From the menu, select "Properties".
  3. At the "System Properties" box, click the "Device Manager" tab.
  4. On the "Device Manager" tab, click the plus (+) next to the "System devices" category to expand it.
  5. Under the "System devices" category, double-click the "Sony Notebook Control Device" entry.
  6. At the "Sony Notebook Control Device Properties" box, in the "Device status" section, verify that "This device is working properly" is displayed.NOTE: If the Sony Notebook Control Device driver not functioning correctly, redownload and reinstall the SNC_ME.EXE file.
  7. Click the "Driver" tab.
  8. On the "Driver" tab, click the Driver File "Details" button.
  9. At the "Driver File Details" box, if the "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SONYNC.SYS" entry isn''t already highlighted, click it to highlight it.
  10. Below the "Driver files:" listing, verify that the File version is "6.0.0.05300".NOTE: If the file version is not "6.0.0.05300", redownload and reinstall the SNC_ME.EXE file.
  11. Click "OK" to close the "Driver File Details" box.
  12. Click "OK" to close the "Sony Notebook Control Device Properties" box.
  13. Click "OK" to close the "System Properties" box.

NOTE: If it is necessary to reinstall the Sony Notebook Control Driver, you will need to first remove the "SNC_ME.EXE" installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the directory where the "SNC_ME.EXE" file was downloaded and double-click it.
  2. At the "Sony Notebook Control Driver Utility for Microsoft Windows Millennium - Welcome" box, click "Continue".
  3. At the "Confirm File Deletion" box, click "OK" to remove all of the update''s components.NOTE: Please wait as the installation files are removed.

The uninstallation is complete. You may now redownload and reinstall the SNC_ME.EXE file.
