This utility will update the BIOS to improve stability when connecting devices through the PCMCIA interfaces.

Important Notes
  • Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
  • Before installing this BIOS update, make sure you have a floppy drive connected to the computer. You will also need to have a blank 3½ floppy disk available. This program will format and create a bootable disk. All the data in the floppy will be erased when the disk is formatted!
  • During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the PH-A12K60802JQ03US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the PH-A12K60802JQ03US.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "Phoenix BIOS R0112K6 Update" window, click Next.
  4. At the "Insert Floppy Disk" window, insert a blank 3.5" floppy diskette into the floppy disk drive (A:) and click OK.
  5. At the "Creating the CRISIS diskette on drive A:" screen, press ENTER.
    WARNING!!: All the data in the floppy disk will be erased.
  6. At the "The CRISIS diskette in drive A: is being formatted" screen, press ENTER. Please wait as the floppy is formatted.
  7. At the "Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?" prompt, type in a name (such as BIOSUPD) and press ENTER.
  8. At the "QuickFormat another (Y/N)?" prompt, press the N key and then press ENTER.
  9. Press ENTER again to continue. Please wait as the BIOS installation files are copied to the floppy disk.
  10. At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press ENTER. Please wait as the BIOS installation disk is made bootable.
  11. At the "Press any key to continue..." prompt, press ENTER.
  12. At the "CRISIS diskette on drive A: successfully created" screen, leave the floppy disk in the drive and press ENTER.
  13. At the "Finished" screen, click Finish. Be sure to leave the bootable floppy disk with the BIOS files in the floppy drive.
  14. At the "Install" box, click OK to restart the computer. As the computer restarts, it will boot from the floppy disk instead of the hard drive. At the BIOS update confirmation screen, press the Y key to begin updating the BIOS. Please wait as the installation of the BIOS will take one to two minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the computer will automatically turn off.
  15. Eject the bootable BIOS installation disk from the drive.
  16. Turn on the computer.
  17. At the black "SONY" screen, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup.
  18. At the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" screen, press ESC key.
  19. From the "Exit" menu, press the DOWN ARROW key until "Get Default Values" is highlighted.
  20. Press ENTER.
  21. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press ENTER.
  22. From the "Exit" menu, verify "Exit (Save Changes)" is highlighted and press ENTER.
  23. At the "Setup Confirmation" box, verify "Yes" is highlighted and press Enter.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS update is complete.
