What does this do?

After upgrading with the Sony VAIO Companion CD for the Windows Me operating system, some unnecessary legacy (old) files may be left on the system. These leftover files can interfere with the device driver installation for the Sony i.LINK (IEEE 1394) hardware and prevent video from being exported from the DVgate™ Motion application. This utility will resolve this issue by removing the unnecessary files, which then allows the correct drivers to install.

What products and operating systems does this apply to?

Model:PCG-XG29,PCG-XG29K
Operating System(s): Windows XP

Note: Not all models are sold in all countries. This file is only for use with the products identified and sold in United States, Latin America, or Canada.

Important Notes
  • Before installing Windows Millennium Edition or Sony's Windows Me software updates, please be sure to read Sony's Installing the Windows Me Operating System. Most of Sony's Windows Me software updates require you to install Windows Me as an upgrade to the Sony factory-shipped version of Windows 98 Second Edition (SE). If Windows 98 SE is removed from the computer before installing Windows Me, or if Windows Me is installed in a different directory than the default selection (C:\Windows), most of Sony's Windows Me updates will not install correctly.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the 1394UPD.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
