What does this do?

This utility installs the Sony Extended BIOS Dynamic Link Library on Sony VAIO Notebook Computers that have been upgraded to the Microsoft Windows Me operating system. These files are necessary to enable Sony utilities to run properly.

Important Notes

• Before installing Microsoft Windows Me operating system, or the Sony software updates for Windows Me operating system, please be sure to read Sony''s Installing the Microsoft Windows Me Operating System. Most of the Sony software updates for Windows Me operating system require you to install Windows Me operating system as an upgrade to the Sony factory-shipped version of Windows 98 or 98 SE operating system.
• If the Windows 98 or 98 SE operating system is removed from the computer before installing Windows Me operating system, or if Windows Me operating system is installed in a different directory than the default selection (C:\Windows), most of the Sony updates for Windows Me operating system will not install correctly.
• To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
• It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions

1. Download the SBI_ME.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SBI_ME.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. At the "Sony Extended BIOS Dynamic Link Library Utility for Microsoft Windows Millennium - Welcome" box, click "Continue".NOTE: Several setup boxes will briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
5. One of two different screens will appear:
• If an "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen appears, click "Finish".
• If a "Setup Complete" screen appears, select "No, I will restart my computer later" and then click "Finish".NOTE: If a "Confirm File Deletion" box appears, you have already installed this update. Click "OK" to remove the existing installation files and then repeat this procedure, starting with step 5, to reinstall the update.
6. Restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony Extended BIOS Dynamic Link Library is complete.

Installation Verification (Optional)

Please follow the steps below to verify that the Sony Extended BIOS Dynamic Link Library was successfully installed.

1. Click "Start" and click "Run".
2. At the "Run" box, in the "Open:" field, type C:\Progra~1\Common~1\Sonysh~1\Sxbios and click "OK".NOTE: A Windows Explorer window will open.
3. In the "Sxbios" Explorer window, right-click the "SXBIOS.DLL" (or just SXBIOS, depending on your display settings) file.
4. From the menu, click "Properties".
5. At the "SxBios.dll Properties" box, click the "Version" tab.
6. On the "Version" tab, verify that the File version is "4.0.2.8170".NOTE: If the File version is not "4.0.2.8170", redownload and reinstall the SBI_ME.EXE file.
7. Click "OK" to close the "SxBios.dll Properties" window.
8. Click the "X" in the top-right corner to close the "Sxbios" Explorer window.

Uninstallation Instructions

If it is necessary to reinstall the Sony Extended BIOS Dynamic Link Library, you will need to first remove the "SBI_ME.EXE" installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Go to the directory where the "SBI_ME.EXE" file was downloaded and double-click it.
2. At the "Sony Extended BIOS Dynamic Link Library Utility for Microsoft Windows Millennium - Welcome" box, click Continue.
3. At the "Confirm File Deletion" box, click OK to remove all of the update''s components.NOTE: Please wait as the installation files are removed.

The uninstallation is complete. You may now redownload and reinstall the SBI_ME.EXE file.
