Important Notes
- During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
- Download the CDW51.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Verify that the PCGA-CDRW51 drive is connected to AC power and the gray mode selector switch on the bottom is set to "CardBus" and not "Recovery."
NOTE: The driver will not be installed correctly if the mode selector is set to "Recovery." - Insert the PCGA-CDRW51 PC Card adapter into the notebook''s PC Card slot.
- At the "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard" screen, click Cancel.
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the CDW51.EXE file to begin the installation.
- At the "Sony PCGA-CDRW51 CD-RW driver - Welcome" box, click Continue.
- At the "Digital Signature Not Found" screen, click Yes. A Command Prompt box will appear as the files are installed. Once finished, the Command Prompt box will close automatically.
- If a "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" screen appears, click Finish.
- At the "Setup Complete" screen, confirm that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and then click Finish.
- At the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon.
- From the menu, select Properties.
- At the "System Properties" box, click the Hardware tab.
- In the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
- At the "Device Manager" window, click the plus (+) next to the "SCSI and RAID controllers" category.
- Under the "SCSI and RAID controllers" category, double-click the "Sony CardBus ATA PC Card" entry.
NOTE: If the "Sony CardBus ATA PC Card" is not displayed in Device Manager, redownload and reinstall the CDW51.EXE file. - At the "Sony CardBus ATA PC Card Properties" box, in the "Device status" section, verify that "This device is working properly" is displayed.
NOTE: If the Sony CardBus ATA PC Card is not functioning correctly, redownload and install the CDW51.EXE. - Click OK to close the "Sony CardBus ATA PC Card Properties" box.
- Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Device Manager" window.
- Click OK to close the "System Properties" box.
NOTE: If it is necessary to install the Sony PCGA-CDRW51 driver again, you will need to first remove the CDW51.EXE installation files. To do so, follow these steps:- Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- At the "Add/Remove Programs" window, click the "Sony CardBus ATA PC Card driver" entry to highlight it.
- Click the Change/Remove button.
- At the "Welcome" screen, click "Remove" and then click Next.
- At the "Confirm File Deletion" window, click OK to remove all of its components.
- If a "ReadOnly File Detected" message box appears, click the box next to "Don''t display this message again" to check it and then click Yes.
- At the "Maintenance Complete" screen, click Finish.
- Click Close to exit the "Add/Remove Programs" window.
- Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Control Panel" window.
The uninstallation is complete. You may now redownload and reinstall the CDW51.EXE file.
