What does this do?

This utility will update the modem driver to enhance compatibility under the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.

Important Notes
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the MODEMF123.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the MODEMF123.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "MODEMF123 - Welcome" box, click Continue.
  4. At the "Digital Signature Not Found" box, click Yes to continue the installation.
    NOTE: A DOS Box will appear and the files will be installed. Once finished, the DOS BOX will close automatically.
  5. At "Setup Complete" screen, click Finish.

The installation of the updated modem driver is now complete.

Installation Verification (Optional)

  1. At the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon
  2. From the menu, select Properties.
  3. At the "System Properties" window, click the Hardware tab.
  4. In the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
  5. At the "Device Manager" window, click the plus (+) next to "Modems" category to expand it.
  6. Under the "Modem" category, double-click the "Conexant HFC PCI Modem" entry.
    NOTE: If the "Conexant HFC PCI Modem" is not displayed in Device Manager, please download and install the MODEMF123.EXE file again. Please refer to the Uninstall Section below.
  7. At the "Conexant HFC PCI Modem Properties" box, in the "Device status" section, verify that "This device is working properly" is displayed.
    NOTE: If the Conexant HFC PCI Modem is not functioning correctly, please download and install the MODEMF123.EXE file again. Please refer to the uninstall section below.
  8. Click OK to close the "Conexant HFC PCI Modem Properties" box.
  9. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Device Manager" window.
  10. Click OK to close the "System Properties" box.

Uninstall Instructions If it is necessary to install the HCF PCI Modem Drivers again, you will need to first remove the MODEMF123.EXE installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the directory where the MODEMF123.EXE file was downloaded and double-click it.
  2. At the "MODEMC1XS - Welcome" box, click Continue.
  3. At the "Setup" box, select "Remove" and then click Next.
  4. At the "Confirm File Deletion" window, click OK to remove all of its components. NOTE: If a "ReadOnly File Detected" message box appears, click the box next to "Don''t display this message again" to check it and then click Yes.
  5. At the "Maintenance Complete" screen, click Finish.
  6. At the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon.
  7. From the menu, select Properties.
  8. At the "System Properties" window, click the Hardware tab.
  9. In the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
  10. At the "Device Manager" window, click the plus (+) next to the "Modems" category to expand it.
  11. Under the "Modem" category, right-click the "Conexant HFC PCI Modem" entry.
  12. From the menu, click Uninstall.
  13. At the "Confirm Device Removal" box, click OK.
  14. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the "Device Manager" window.
  15. Click OK to close the "System Properties" box.
  16. Restart the computer.

After the computer has restarted, the MODEMF123.EXE file can be reinstalled.
