What does this do?

This program updates the BIOS to provide operating system compatibility.

Important Notes
  • Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
  • To install this upgrade, the floppy drive will need to be installed in the computer. You will also need to create a bootable floppy disk to receive the BIOS update files. To prepare a floppy disk for use with this update, please refer to the Create A Bootable Floppy Disk procedure.
  • This procedure will update the computer BIOS for Windows 2000. It may be necessary to remove and reinstall any installed hardware that did not ship with the computer. For assistance reinstalling the hardware, please consult the product documentation or contact the product manufacturer.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the BIOS06K0.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the BIOS06K0.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "BIOS06K0 - Welcome" box, click "Continue".
  4. At the "BIOS Version W2K06K0 Upgrade Utility" screen, click "Next".
  5. At the "Copying Files" screen, insert a formatted bootable floppy disk in the disk drive (A:), and then click "Next". Please wait as the files are copied to the floppy disk.
  6. At the "Finished copying files" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" is selected and click "Finish" to restart the computer. Be sure to leave the floppy disk in the drive. The computer will boot to the floppy disk and run the BIOS update utility. After the update is complete, the computer will turn off.
  7. Eject the floppy disk from the drive. It is recommended that you keep the disk in a safe place in case it becomes necessary to reinstall the BIOS update.
  8. Turn on the computer.

After the computer restarts, the update is complete.

Uninstall Instructions

If it is necessary to run the BIOS06K0.EXE utility again, you will need to first remove the BIOS06K0 installation files. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the directory where the BIOS06K0.EXE file was downloaded and double-click it.
  2. At the "BIOS06K0 - Welcome" window, click "Continue".
  3. At the "Setup" window, select "Remove" and click Next to remove the components.
  4. Insert the bootable floppy disk back into the drive.
  5. At the "Confirm File Deletion" box, click "OK".
    NOTE: If a "ReadOnly File Detected" message box appears, click the box next to "Don''t display this message again" to check it and then click "Yes".
  6. At the "Maintenance Complete" screen, click "Finish".
